Got a 2146 with 38" mower. At 100 hrs pto belt broke.Put new belt on and burnised it in the way they said. This belt came off at 90 hrs.Put back on and at 100 hrs it broke-again.Got another belt and was burnising it in the way shop manual says. After about 3 times engaging pto it came off again.Put it back on and it sends to be working ok now.I replaced the spring that holds tension on the belt.Nothing is loose or worn that I can tell.Only thing I did is bend the belt guard down over the idler pulley it is on.It seems to be working but have not cut grass with it yet.I would think the belts should last longer than what the original did and the replacement for sure. 20+ ain't cheap.Anything to look for.Thanks.

I'm not familar with that model. I thought that was a shaft drive to the mower deck. My older models have a long belt going through a 90 degree bend before going to the deck. All of my belts have lasted a long time. I've gotten up to 1700 hrs. on one. The belt on the deck driving the other blades lasts a long time as well. They are prone to getting filled with grass and leaves debris.
Are all of your pulleys free moving (i.e. not froze up)? Do you have the belts adjusted too loose? Overtightening them will result in premature spindle bearing failure. ....
